Yesterday It Hit Me Again How Extreme the USA Is
One thing the 13 "friends" on my FB - well those who actually bothered to read my posts - know is how over the years my view towards the USA changed.
Not because of politics - to me that is just one more disease running rampant over there - because I couldn't care less about "left" or "right" and honestly got so tired of hearing about all of it.
I've always been the kind of person to question things. And seek to understand rather than just "listen" and readily accept the programming thrown at me as if I was a mindless non-sentient robot.
At least that's what I thought.
However, I hadn't realized how deep the programming went. The mythos of the USA was so strong in me and every person I have ever personally known.
What stood out to me over time, as I grew as a person, and was able to detach my own ego and the need for that strong USA-based identity... is just how weird the USA culture and "norms" really are.
I started noticing things... like how much I heard people ranting about extreme things.
Endless ranting about "LAW & ORDER" and "ZERO TOLERANCE". Others ranting with deep hatred for wealthy people demanding more than a certain amount of other people's money be taken by the government.
The extreme glorification of "work ethic" in jobs and business. People commonly admired those who spent nearly all of their time and energy focused on their career / business even when it caused neglect of their own family. This was the expected norm.
Wow! All of this and I still haven't even covered what I intended to write about! 😅
It's not "USA bashing" for fun. For me, that's NOT an enjoyment.
It's recognizing, not only how strange things are, but also that for so long I accepted much of the USA ways - beliefs & practices - as "normal".
That's why it's easy for me to write about this now.
Anyway, I will make another post to focus on what I intended to here. 😉
