Big Tech Gets Blamed for Everything But People Ruined It
I was just thinking... 😅
Were Big Tech (Google, Meta, etc) completely to blame for changing the Internet experience so much?
They surely drove a lot of it with their obsession for money. 🤑
BUT... I think there's another big factor.
I remember the Internet experience before, even when it was at the beginning of, becoming mainstream.
What really changed the experience, I think, is when "anyone and everyone" started coming online.
And I realize how bad that sounds - elitist. 🫣
Right now we have an Internet where people who have no experience, no knowledge, and often even no interest, in a certain topic routinely go around crapping their opinions on those topics.
Some actively seek out content they do not agree with so they can attack it, the creator, and argue with people in the comments.
Others make it their mission to invade every comment section and twist the content to be political trying to work "Trump!" or "Democrats!" in. Even when there is no connection at all.
Bots? Who made them? 🙄
Many people are desperate to "be somebody" and will parrot experiences they've read - or pull their comments from AI - so they can "correct" / argue with people who have been actually doing something for 20 years!
Big Tech caused a lot of damage with their extreme surveillance capitalism and turning the online experience into a competition for attention.
BUT... it only worked because it was a match for masses of people.
Any person should be able to create a FB group on something they are interested in and find like-minded people.
What happens?
Over time...
People who actually hate that topic - or have no interest in it - infiltrate just so they can troll people in the group.
Or overly opinionated people join and try to dominate the place.
These are "people problems" not the platforms.
I'm thinking it'll happen anywhere sooner or later.
How long before we start seeing people here only blogging to argue with others or viewing this as a big competition they must win at any cost? 🤒
