Today I Started My Segmented Sleep Experiment

Just something different here instead of rambling on about "bigger" topics - although in reality anything can become a huge topic. :p

Now that I am free of a job and FINALLY have a lot more time to do the things I want to do...

I am remembering more things that I used to think about doing.

Actually in this case, I have to give the credit to an article I saw on Facebook a few days ago or maybe last week.

It was talking about how long ago people used to not sleep in a long stretch of 7 to 9 hours like they do now.

Instead, they would go to sleep around sunset and then wake up later perhaps 11 PM to midnight.

They would add some wood to the fire as needed, perhaps have a light snack of bread or whatever, some would spend family time, some would spend time in prayer or reading their Bible, others would walk to a nearby neighbor's house and visit.

After 2 to 3 hours, they would go back to sleep until morning usually sunrise or just before.

That reminded me how before I got on the job grind I used to be a "night owl" and I always figured one day when I finally was free of needing to wake up early for a job that I would gradually return to staying up later going back to natural night owl ways.

However, I had also considered trying out different ways of sleeping altogether because I do often find I can be super productive in 3 to 5 hour sprints and then I am ready for a break.

Seeing that post about the old way of sleeping reminded me of these things.

So, I created a simple alternating wake-sleep schedule that I am on as of today.

I will end up with 8 hours of sleep (or at least rest) and 16 hours of active wake time. But it will be broken up into multiple segments.

I started out with a long awake time. Followed by a short sleep. And now I am on a slightly shorter awake time that will be followed by a longer (than before) sleep time.

And so on. That's just how I designed it for a starting point.

Actually, I need to wrap this up because my alarm just went off giving me the "10 minute warning" of my approaching sleep time.

So this is it for now. :)
