Doomscrolling Is A Weird Thing That Makes No Sense To Me

Since starting my blog here and reading many other blogs I have come across many people mentioning "doomscrolling" usually talking about it as one of the worst things about Facebook or other social media.

I've never understood this deep interest, even obsession, with disasters, crime, conflict and other negative stuff that so many people seem to have.

It's also very strange to me to hear people talk about this as being one of the biggest problems with Facebook.

My own Facebook "feed" consists almost entirely of posts about Mindset, Investing, Christianity/Buddhism/Spirituality, Fitness, Living Overseas, Science, Space and Nature.

Where and why are people seeing all of this "doom" stuff?

If they are referring to the comments made on posts... THAT I can understand.

There are often extremists commenting about "Trump!" or "Democrats!". Many people feel the need to crap that stuff on everything online.

But this "doomscrolling" seems to be a different thing of people actively scrolling across reading about "bad" stuff continually.

There are definitely bad things about social media and I don't think it's good for multiple reasons.

I'm just saying this "doomscrolling" is a weird one because it seems to be more of the algorithm feeding people what their actions indicate they are interested in seeing.

On the positive... this means it's largely in our control to not see those "doom" posts. 🙂
